Gulfstream Images visited RAF Marham with the Cottesmore Aviation Group (CAG) for a final viewing of the Canberra PR9's of 39(1PRU) Sqn. A few days before the groups visit, the Squadron had returned from its final deployment, marking the end of operational service for the Canberra.
All three operational Canberra's were on display, with XH131 and XH135 still in their grey colour scheme from deployment in the Middle East. XH134 was sporting a special tail colour scheme celebrating the 80 year history of 39Sqn. Also tucked away in the hanger was XH169 minus various parts, this aircraft is hopefully destined to be put on permanent display at Marham.
39Sqn finally dispanded on 30th July 2006, ending 55 years of the Canberra in RAF service. All three Canberra's departed Marham for Kemble the following day for onward sale to private owners. I would like to thank Martin Keen of the Cottesmore Aviation Group and 39Sqn for their hospitality.
